Petra & Alex
We are Alex and Petra, a French-Austrian couple living in Terra Alta since 2016.
Together, we started Finca La Despeinada — a name inspired
by the strong sea wind that often leaves us and our vines a bit uncombed.
We farm about 4.5 hectares of mostly old vineyards (20 to 80 years old),
spread between Bot and Gandesa, including a new half-hectare planted in
spring 2025. We do all vineyard and cellar work ourselves, with the help
of friends during harvest.
Our approach is based on regenerative agriculture: we encourage
biodiversity, use spontaneous or sown cover crops, and avoid compacting
the soil — using our small tractor only when strictly necessary. Most
work is done by hand. We don’t use chemical fertilizers or synthetic
treatments. Instead, we treat only with sulfur when needed, and use
medicinal plants (like horsetail, nettle, and yarrow) and beneficial
microorganisms to support soil life.
In the cellar, we’ve been working naturally from the very beginning. For
us, that means using only grapes — no added sulfites, no lab yeasts, no
chemical additives, no filtering or fining.
Fermentations are spontaneous, and everything is done by gravity and hand. We aim to make honest, vibrant wines that express their origin and bring joy.
We believe in small scaled agriculture that includes human dimension, putting the care in the center – care for the people producing healthy food, care for the relations in all the process and care for the biodiversity and all the life which is involved.
We produce around 10,000 bottles a year, depending on the vintage.
Our small winery is in Gandesa — visitors are always welcome!
